Regine Velasquez Launches "Low Key" Album Under Universal Records

Asia's Songbird Regine Velasquez launches her very first album with Universal Records titled "Low Key".

Compared to her previous albums, Low Key has Regine singing mellow songs—all covers. Some of the tracks include Terri Gibbs's "Tell Me That You Love Me," Don McLean's "And I Love You So," Rita Cooldige's "I'd Rather Leave While I'm In love," Katie Irving's "I Never Dreamed Someone Like You Could Love Someone Like Me," Orsa Lia's "No Walls, No Ceilings, No Floors;" Cat Steven's "How Can I Tell You," Dennis Lambert's "Of All the Things," Dan Fogelberg's "Longer," Janis Japlin's "At Seventeen," Christopher Cross's "Never Be the Same," and the Beatles' "Strawberry Fields Forever."

There are also two songs included in the album that are especially dedicated to Regine's parents, Gerry and Tessie Velasquez. For her father, Regine recorded Dan Fogelberg's "Leader of the Band" while she picked Billy Joel's "She's Always A Woman To Me" for her mom.

Noticeably, Regine's rendition of the songs is more restrained, a far cry from the usual belting that she does in most of her albums.

"Yeah, that's why it's called Low Key, 'cause it's more relaxed, more laid-back. Hindi naman talagang pinigil, ‘no, but the songs are mellow din kasi, e. So, ang hirap namang magtititili ako na... It doesn't really call for it." Regine agrees.

Kuh Ledesma, Zsa Zsa Padilla, Pops Fernandez, and Regine Velasquez in "Divas 4 Divas" Concert

Four of the country’s top divas — the "Pop Diva" Kuh Ledesma, the "Divine Diva" Zsa Zsa Padilla, the "Concert Queen" Pops Fernandez, and "Asia's Songbird" Regine Velasquez will be together on the same stage for the biggest concert of the year titled “Divas 4 Divas.”

The said concert took nearly five years to plan. “It took so long because of so many obstacles. Unang-una, yung availability ng bawat isa sa kanila. Almost all of us naman are doing shows abroad kaya ang hirap mahanapan ng schedules. Kung kelan nandito ang tatlo, may isa naman na wala for many months. So, mahirap talaga to gather all of us together.

"Thank God at natupad naman ang matagal na naming dream concert. Ngayon, plantsado na at may date and venue na kami. Napag-usapan na namin ang magiging concept ng concert and everybody agrees on the outcome of the show. Kaya excited na kaming simulan ang rehearsals." said Kuh Ledesma.

The concert will be on December 6, Saturday 8:30PM at the Araneta Coliseum. Divas 4 Divas tickets are available at Music Museum (721-0635 and 721-6726), Headline Concepts (551-7253, 551-7255) and TicketNet (911-5555).
