TWITTER, RAIN, & SHAKESPEARE IN THE PARK
It turns out that the best way to find out whether Shakespeare in the Park in New York is cancelled because of rain may be to check their Twitter feed. They do not seem to post the information on their web site, but did post it in a fairly timely fashion on Twitter:

By the way...
They generally ("never" ?) cancel a performance because of rain before 8:00. They may even hold out for an extra half hour or so in the hope the rain will clear up. (That has actually happened to me twice in the last few years... rain stopped or delayed a performance and then clearing allowed the play to go on.)
This year they are performing ALL'S WELL THAT ENDS WELL (a good performance I saw recently) and MEASURE FOR MEASURE.
And... Plan ahead: Coming to the Public Theater in the fall (not in the park) is Sam Waterston in KING LEAR!

OCEANA MAKES A SPLASH
OCEANA, an organization devoted to protecting, well... the Ocean,
is having a posh splash party in the Hamptons this Saturday. Tickets are pricey, but the guest list (and cause) is priceless (see below).
Certainly, the ocean is a fragile thing, and the danger to its (and our!) survival is now at a critical watchpoint with (among other things!) toxic chemicals still burbling up from the hole in the bottom of the sea. Mobilizing support for protection of the ocean and its denizens is a supremely valuable cause.
For more about the work they are doing, see
