Bachelor...really brad?

Brad is kind of an idiot.

This week was sort of slow. I think mostly because they didn't really have much of Michelle on it this week. But Brad is dumb. And I'm getting really bored of him talking to his therapist every week. It's obviously not helping him make very good decisions.
First of all, he took Emily to the Nascar track...ummm hello, her fiance died going to a race car track.
Then he let Ashley S go over Ashley H on the two on one? Are you kidding me? Ohmigosh, shoot me now. He's so dumb. Ashley S was so cute, and H is like a psycho. Whatever. Then he didn't even talk to S while he was walking her to the car. Rude.
Anyway, I just wish i was Chantal N, because she got a shopping spree. I'd take that.
Anyway, I'm sad that Ashley S and Lisa went home. I just want Ashley H out, and I'm kinda wanting him to get rid of Chantal O because she's been driving me nuts lately, but I knew he was going to keep her.

Quotes from this weeks show

"You only want to make one incision...because if you have to start raising other places, that's room for any other leakage" - Ghantal N

"Where would this leakage occur...?" - Brad

"Well think of all of the other body orrfices." - Chantal N

"I feel like i'm gonna pee in my pants." - Ashley S

"I'm really glad that this is happening. I think its time for the Ashleys to part ways. And there's a chance that both Ashleys will go home tomorrow. Really at the end of the day i dont care who it is. I just wanna get out and see Brad." - Michelle. (as both Ashleys are crying on the couch. classy.

"Plus I am fun and hot and you should see me in a race car. " - Michelle

"Brad doesn't know anything about my history with nascar...he knows that my fiance passed away and that i'm a mom, but he doesn't know how all that kind of relates to this date in particular." - emily

"I'm just seeing how emotional the women are. It's just very diffifult." - Brad...(DUH What did you expect?)

"I feel like there are very few women here. Brad is a man babysitting a bunch of little girls." - Michelle

"It's hard to feel like you're not some creepy person watching Brad and Emily on a date all night." - Chantal O

"I've been with certain guys in relationships and then at the end of it they don't want to be with me. It just makes you feel like something is wrong with me." - Ashley S

"If you think because you had a one on one, that you're something special, throw it out the window." - Marissa

"You're not allowed to speak....(long speech)...I think we should go send some girls home now. And the next time we're together you can talk." - Michelle

"Please try to understand" - Brad to Marissa, after she got kicked off...umm you didn't exactly explain to her what she's supposed to understand...

Reminder of my Resolutions

2011...Trying to keep on Track
It's the last day of January, so I thought I would just remind myself of the resolutions I set this year.

- I will save money
- I will try and pay off some debt :)
- I will travel more (I know this seems counter productive to the top two, but that's why I'm trying to save money.
- I will be more patient.
- I will try to exercise more regularly and stay in shape.
- I will drink more water.
- I will try to buy less, but when I do I will make sure I buy things that I love.
- I will get better sleep. 8 hours a night.
- I will be on time to work.
- I will make an effort to be more presentable at work.
- I will think about things before I say it.
- I will enjoy life and stress less.
- I will do more things for me.
- I will be grateful for the things that I have.

Fashion Designer Charles Nolan Dies at 53

American fashion designer Charles Nolan has died in New York after fighting cancer. The 53-year-old Nolan was known to be a fan of classic styles, but he skewed them with a modern edge and personal touch.

Women's Wear Daily first reported his death on its website Sunday. Charles Nolan store vintage buyer Maggie Savage confirmed the report.

Nolan launched his own label in 2004. He previously was the head designer for Anne Klein and Ellen Tracy. But he was almost as well known for his political interest as his work in fashion.

He took a publicized hiatus from fashion in 2003 to work on former Democratic Vermont Gov. Howard Dean's presidential campaign. Dean tells Women's Wear Daily that Nolan was a "wonderful" person.

Soap Discussion - January 2011

And to end January off, here's a soap blog for you all ....

Coronation Street: This show has continued to improve over the last few months and the residual consequences of the tram crash storyline have been gripping stuff. It served as a motive for Claire being the one responsible for Tracy getting her head caved and there was an interesting sense of community spirit as everyone helped her escape the police. Tracy's going to have find some other way to vent her rage now. Also when we weren't dealing with Janice being burgled or Fiz's growing financial woes (and the unwise choice of helping to claim Joy Fishwick's will), there was John having a breakdown. He's really sensitive for a killer, ain't he? Gary's continuous breakdowns are also apt but the writers do need to give him to do as well and Eileen's stealing off Owen was surprisingly short lived. Highlight of the month was Sally's means of trying to dissuade buyers from her house. Take that, Kevin Webster.

EastEnders: For a show that won Best Soap at the NTA's last week, I'm struggling to think of one of the many big storylines in January 2011 that was actually likeable. I'm not gonna further comment on the baby swap storyline because it's so damn tedious that I don't want to care. Similarly I can't bring myself to care about Christian and Syed's boring quest to have a baby with Roxy because the writers can't be arsed to actually develop them as a couple. Nor do I care about Phil's near but not deadly heart attack or his tiresome feuding with Ian. Plus, if I go into the Carol/Connor and Phil/Glenda/Ian affairs, I might just throw up and unlike Heather's fecking sneezing about the place last week, I would be convincing. Overall, this was a month that gave and gave bad storylines in spades.

Emmerdale: Maybe the producers were feeling left out with the tram stuff but did they really think a fire storyline was going to ignite the same talk? Probably but it wasn't as good and given that both Terry and Viv were long time characters, they deserved better an exit. Plus, I don't believe Katie's really worth the effort, Henshall, though he didn't have to do much to convince the village that Andy was responsible though, did he? Better thought out storylines was Lisa's rape by creepy Derek, Maisie and Will's more subdued but effective exits and the recent antics with Faye, Cain, Charity and Jai, even if it does make Cain look like a dolt. Also, why do I get the bad feeling that Aaron and Jackson are effectively doomed? Those recent video diaries of Jackson's are not a good omen and neither is the arrival of Flynn, who I did find rather cute by the way.
Hollyoaks: A really great month for this show, even if I couldn't care less about Mercedes cheating on Riley with his dad. Overall, I'm loving the inclusion of Mitzee into the Brendan/Ste plot, enjoying the weird but interesting partnership of Brendan and Warren, the fallout of Jasmine/Jason's GID storyline with the Costellos and even little Tom trying to defend Jack from an intruder. For a soap that's heavily youth obsessed, it can be quite brilliant with storylines that other soaps aren't at times. Even the return of the rather annoying Gaz for a brief time couldn't deter the greatness of this month, though Nancy's moaning about Darren being a new dad was a little tiresome. Plus, no overkill on the McQueens as well certainly helped matters.

Fair City: I won't be talking about this soap every month (or maybe I will) but I have to admit that I like it when a soap gives us an odd coupling and Turlough and Neasa perfectly fit that trope. Not only have I managed to actually like Turlough and feel bad for him but it was nice to see one male character on the show not treat Neasa like a bimbo either. Too bad Bob has to be a perennial spanner in the works with his inane glee in trying to wreck both Turlough/Neasa and Carol/Louis whenever he got the chance to. And while I'm finding the whole trying to normalise the other Bishop brothers a bit too rushed, points to the show for the brief Come Dine With Me subplot with Niamh, Orla, Yvonne and Carol as well this month.

Lisa Miskovsky - Got A Friend

"Play with fire, but you're so cold"

Lisa Miskovsky has been around the Swedish music scene for awhile now. She started out as a mostly folksy, acoustic--almost country--artist but has experimented with a more subtle electronic pop sound as she's released more material. This is no dancefloor stormer, but it's definitely glossier than her first recordings. There's a nice collision of sounds here, an augmented version of her acoustic guitar pop. Plus, it's catchy as hell. The chorus has a big, anthemic sound to it--perfect for the radio. And Miskovsky's vocals, as usual, are as smooth and pleasant as ever. I've always thought that she would be an excellent addition to Sweden's Melodifestivalen. The contest seems to favor this style (ie: a more interesting version of last year's winner). Then Miskovsky's transformation would be complete.

My Review of Being Human's 3x02: "Adam's Family"

Written by Brian Dooley
Directed by Colin Teague

Nina: “Stay in touch, yeah?”
Adam: “You so want me.”
George: “Good luck, yeah?”
Adam: “George, one more thing – you are such a sad arse.”

And it’s goodbye to you, Adam. If we ever wanted to see George and Nina in parental mode (and I have a feeling this episode sort of set that up), then their taking care of young vampire Adam was a pretty good case in point of proving how great they would be whenever they have their own kids. Notice I didn’t say if there, right?

I liked that Adam’s arc in some ways was more or less resembling Jessica’s from True Blood or even Caroline’s from The Vampire Diaries. Take a baby faced teenage vampire and try to help him survive in the big bad world now that his father has passed on. George and Nina didn’t have to help the lad but they’re better people for doing it though.

Adam didn’t make it exactly easy for them with his initial werewolf-phobic behaviour and penchant for running off and nearly snacking on a random girl but I did feel incredibly sorry for the guy when George and Nina originally handed him over to rich vampire couple, Richard and Emma. Thank goodness the pair of them saw sense.

Richard and Emma as vampires pretty much proved that all the money and privilege in the world still makes you a total div. They had care for the humans they drank off, in spite of their nifty little system and their attitude towards George and Nina definitely made me want to stake them as well.

Fortunately when it came down to the crunch, Adam chose a more complicated life over the idea of being stuck in a rich nightmare freak show with Richard and Emma. I’m guessing the idea of numbered gimp and having to shag Emma on a billiards table wasn’t exactly up Adam’s alley after all.

However while George and Nina did step up to the plate and got Adam away from the mad pair, why do I get the feeling that Richard’s threat of repercussions wasn’t just him blowing hot air? This season is supposed to be giving all kinds of villains and I would definitely be surprised if Richard and Emma didn’t surface later in the season to get their own back on George and Nina.

As for the goodbye scene with Adam, I thought it was absolutely a nice way of sending the character off. He’s already got his own journey to make and online spin-off with Becoming Human, so it’s definitely not the last we’ve seen of him. That’s great, because despite some of his doltish behaviour and the fact that he looked horribly unkempt for the first half of the episode, he was definitely a more entertaining vampire than Vincent was in the previous episode.

Less entertaining this week was Mitchell. I can understand his reluctance in telling the gang that he’s got a werewolf related death coming his way but I found myself getting annoyed with him throughout this episode for multiple reasons – taking so long to help Adam out being one of them.

But the main was his attitude with Annie. Yes, he had some great moments with her and while he was right to tell her not to define herself by the gang, he’s also doing a lot of harm to her by lying to her as well. I really do hope that we don’t have to wait until the finale for Mitchell to let everyone else know that he’s got a nasty prophecy hanging over his head.

Also in “Adam’s Family”

Becoming Human can be seen on the BBC3 website as well as the red button and will continue for the rest of this series.

Annie: “It wasn’t actually all that bad.”
Nina: “Annie, you were in purgatory.”
Annie: “Yeah, I know but I’ve been to the Isle Of Wight, so it’s not really that much of a culture shock.”

Adam's dad mentioned having a thing for Anneke Rice. My bad.

Nina: “I know what you are.”
Adam: “So you know what I can do to you if you come any nearer, Goldie.”

Richard (re Mitchell): “I expected some demon. What do I find? The last Russell Brand in the shop.”

Richard tried to get Mitchell to go to South America on behalf of the Old Ones. Mitchell should be a lot more worried that Richard knows about the Box Tunnel Massacre.

George (to Adam, re Annie): “You’re a 46 year old vampire who dresses like a child. Don’t call her freaky.”

Adam: “Just because you’re a vampire doesn’t mean you have to smell like the undead. One word, Mitch: deodorant.”

Despite no appearances from McNair and Tom, more hints of Mitchell’s death by werewolf came with a fantasy sequence news announcement. In better news, he managed to bag another cleaning job.

Richard (to George/Nina): “You may not understand our little arrangement here but at least accept that it works.”

Who was that hand that we saw at the end of the episode? I don’t remember anyone being turned in this episode.

George: “Did you just realise that I’m zipping up my coat and going back there?”
Nina: “Yeah and I’m coming with you.”

Richard (re George/Nina): “These are not your people. These animals ...”
Adam: “Yeah, tell it to someone who gives a shit.”

I couldn’t find any of the music credits for this episode and not much time has passed since “Lia”. Annie mentioned a day or something.

“Adam’s Family” isn’t as good as the opening episode but it’s certainly a nice set up for the character and his online spin-off and while the Mitchell/Annie bits were a little disappointing, I think George and Nina more than made up for it.

Doctor Who - NTA Sketch

Written by Steven Moffat
Directed by Richard Senior

Dermot O’Leary: “I’ve missed the National Television Awards. I’m an idiot.”
The Doctor: “Can I help?”

Can you go back to last Wednesday and stop Waterloo Road from scooping best drama because that would be a tonic and a bit? Um, bitterness aside, this proved to be one sketch too many.

Maybe it’s because most of the TV personalities who contributed to it are ones that annoy me or maybe it’s because I don’t ever want to think of Amanda Holden being Prime Minister or Becky MacDonald being the Doctor’s future wife. Either way, this three and a half minute sketch struck a bum note.

Dermot O’Leary – nice bloke but sort of bland and not really all that great an NTA host. Similarly wasn’t that great in this either, I’m afraid. As for Matt Smith, I was kind of embarrassed for him with this one. Even if this had been a Children In Need sketch, it still wouldn’t have worked so well.

On the plus side, it doesn’t last that long, still is nowhere near as bad as Dimensions In Time and we did get to see a new outfit for the 11th Doctor but aside from that, it just didn’t gel all that much.

- There were mentions of canaries in mine shafts before Dermot had to meet Bruce Forsyth.
- Is it wise to have a top rated BBC show slag off the BBC itself?
- Dermot O’Leary, okay he did look nice in that tuxedo but I still didn’t find him that great an NTA host.
- Shame about Matt Smith losing out to David Jason but at least he had worthy competition in one of his categories.

A bit overblown but I think some people will have enjoyed this one more than me. I expect a better sketch/missing scene for Children In Need or Comic Relief this year though.

Channing Tatum was born in a small town called Cullman, outside of Birmingham, Alabama. Growing up, he was full of energy and somewhat troublesome, so his parents decided to enroll him in different sports such as track and field, baseball, soccer, and football to keep him out of trouble. Channing's goal was finally met, and in his senior year in high school, he was recruited and earned a full athletic college scholarship to a school in West Virginia.

Tatum is also skilled in Kung Fu and in Gor-Chor Kung Fu, a form of martial arts, in which he has earned belts in both. Channing later left college and, in the meantime, worked as a construction worker, a stripper, a mortgage broker and salesman. Channing can be seen on the big screen as a featured actor in Coach Carter (2005), in which he plays a high school basketball player. He was also in the very popular TV series "CSI: Miami" (2002) where he played the role of Bob Davenport.

Rant #434: Two Comics Not Standing

Two comedians who reached the zenith of their craft in the late 1960s and early 1970s passed away last week.

David Frye was one of the top impressionists in the country, but was forever linked with Richard Nixon. During the Watergate era, he reached the pinnacle of success with his dead-on impressions of the scandal-ridden President.

He had everything down pat. The facial mannerisms, the way Nixon talked, everything. He was perhaps Nixon's greatest impersonator.

He had several best-selling record albums centering on his impressions of Nixon.

After several years at the top, Frye fell just as quickly as Nixon did.

He was so inextricably tied in with Nixon that when the President resigned and lived the solitary life for the rest of his life, Frye's career waned. He did other impressions, but none as well as Nixon.

He continued to perform, but was not the presence he once was--he was basically the Vaughn Meader of his day.

Charlie Callas is another story.

Callas began his entertainment career as a drummer, but the way he looked--wiry build, tall and lanky, almost like a human rubber band--made him the focus of the bands he was in.

His fellow musicians noticed that Callas had a knack for comedy anyway, and encouraged him to trade in his drumsticks for a microphone.

And he did to great acclaim.

When he wasn't appearing on The Ed Sullivan Show or on The Tonight Show or on every other major entertainment show of the 1960s and 1970s, he was drawing big crowds in Las Vegas.

He also appeared in a number of movies, never the star, but you knew he was in the movie by his presence.

Since the 1980s, he did mainly standup, and his star faded from television as the talk show faded. He was among the veteran comics who were basically squeezed out by the in-your-face, newer comics.

But he kept performing into the early 2000s, and had been in semi-retirement when he passed.

Both Frye and Callas left excellent legacies behind. Anyone who mimics a President has to take a listen to Frye's comedy albums, while rubbery comic actors like Jim Carrey certainly owe a debt of gratitude to Callas.

May they both rest in peace.

“How Do You Know” - A New Comedy That Asks Questions on Love

The title question in Columbia Pictures' new romantic comedy “How Do You Know” is the most important one most of us will ever face, and as the world gets more complicated and disconnected, it’s harder to answer than ever.

We all have, at some point, a feeling that everything we’ve depended on we can’t depend on anymore. And when that happens, the only thing we have left is love,” says Oscar-winning director James L. Brooks. “You can think your life is terrible, and then he or she walks in and it’s not terrible anymore. That’s it – love is our saving grace.”

“How Do You Know” is a comedy about people in transition. Lisa's (Reese Witherspoon) athletic ability is the defining passion of her life, having been her focus since early childhood. When she is cut from her team, everything she has ever known is suddenly taken from her. George (Paul Rudd) is a straight-arrow businessman who is accused of a financial crime, even though he's done nothing wrong. Although he may be headed to jail, George's honesty, integrity, and unceasing optimism may be his only path to keeping his sanity. George and Lisa meet on the worst day of each of their lives: she has just been cut, and he has just been served. When everything else seems to be falling apart, they will discover what it means to have something wonderful happen.

Brooks says that the project began simply. “I was driving by some ball fields, soccer fields, and filled with women and girls, all ages, and I thought, it’s been a while since we’ve seen a female jock heroine. And I’m a research nut, so that started me on a year of talking to great female athletes.”

There’s maybe five minutes of softball in the movie, but it informs Lisa's whole character,” says Brooks. “I have a rule in research: the third time I hear something, it’s generally true. This time, every female athlete I spoke to said that it takes another athlete to understand how much time they have to give to their sport. They can’t go out, they can’t go to the party, because they’re playing, they’re honing their skills. It’s very hard for a man to understand that if he doesn’t share it.

Jim's voice is unique,” says producer Julie Ansell, who has been Brooks’ producing partner for 20 years. “He has insights into people - when he writes something that touches on something you’ve experienced in your own life, you think, ‘That’s it - I couldn’t have put it into words, but that’s how I felt.’ It hits you deep inside.

He writes about real people, real dilemmas they face,” shares producer Paula Weinstein. “His characters are complicated, difficult, confused, human, flawed, funny, and true. Watching his movies is like reading a great novel that you don’t want to end - you just want to stay in their world a little while more.”

No one writes dialogue the way he does,” Ansell continues. “He wants to get into his characters so deeply that sometimes we spend two years doing research, talking to hundreds of people for each character.”

Jim gets an idea for his characters, then he wants to find out what’s real, what’s true,” concludes Weinstein.

Opening soon across the Philippines, “How Do You Know” is distributed by Columbia Pictures, local office of Sony Pictures Releasing International.
