As earlier reported, Volta starring Ai Ai delas Alas made it as regional semi-finalist for Best Comedy category in the International Emmy Awards.
Apparently, there are two other entries from the Philippines to make it as semi-finalists in the most prestigious award-giving body for television in the whole world. ABS-CBN’s Pangarap Na Bituin starring Sarah Geronimo, Maja Salvador and Rica Peralejo was nominated in the Best Telenovela category. The primetime soap is bound to compete with popular telenovelas in Europe and South America where the term “telenovela” was invented.
The third honor was brought by Joaquin Bordado’s leading lady Iza Calzado. She is the only actress from the Philippines to be nominated in the Best Performance by an Actress category in the history of Emmy.
The International Emmy’s is usually dominated by United Kingdom as the original Emmy Awards is for American television.
The 36th International Emmy Awards will take place Monday, November 24, 2008 at the Hilton Hotel, New York.
Last year, ABS-CBN’s news program Bandila became the first Philippine program to make it as finalist in the prestigious award-giving body.
